Welcome to Oyemaja Law Jobs and Internships. Here, we have curated a comprehensive list of jobs and internships with law firms and non-law organizations across a broad range of industries and sectors in and outside Nigeria. All jobs and internships are curated based on a mix of information in the public domain and credible information and direction from current or ex employees or interns of such organizations on the availability and processes of successfully applying for such roles and internship positions.

Before you apply

Applying for a job at law firms in Nigeria can be challenging considering the volume of applications recorded by law firms every year. This is particularly so for Tier-1 law firms and several middle-tier law firms offering a high salary range, attractive bonus packages, global recognition, a hybrid workplace and a good career projection. This competitive system demands that, in addition to your good grades, you must stand out from an overwhelming crowd of applicants.

The strategy is not set in stone. Despite the traditional approach being sending an email with your CV attached and waiting for a reply, many applicants have secured an interview by striking meaningful conversations with partners of law firms at law conferences, through recommendations from Senior Associates, by cold-messaging on LinkedIn etc. However, there are methods and resources that have been proven over the years to widen your chances of creating and seizing the opportunity to get you into the door. We have curated these resources for you below to equip yourself with before commencing your application.

Internship opportunities

Here, you will find a list of law firms within and outside Nigeria with internship position availability and the requirements and processes for applying.

Note: Internships applications, like job opportunities, are typically accepted by firms irrespective of an official announcement by the firm. This means that you do not have to wait for a formal announcement before you apply. Moreover, the competition is higher when an official announcement is made, compared to applying other times of the year. The compilation below is therefore based on firms who, in addition to receiving interns randomly, also have specific period when invitations for internship applications are announced.

Note: For law students, there is flexibility as to the level in which you should apply; this means that even 100 level students, as well as final year students can apply. However, it has become customary that students start applying from 200 level, where they would have been introduced to the rudimentary aspects of knowledge in the university.

Note: While law students have the flexibility to intern in the legal departments of non-law organizations, non-law students do not typically have the flexibility to intern in law firms. Law firms in recent times are however restructuring their operations by creating a distinction between "legal" and "business development". Non-law students have the opportunity to apply as interns in the business development departments of law firms.
