  1. Xi Jinping secures third term as China’s leader (23rd October, 2022)(Politics, China): Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, has secured a third term as President of China on Sunday 23rd October 2022, appointing his closest allies (Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Hunin, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi) to the top echelons of power and retiring his rivals.

  2. Boris Johnson withdraws from UK Prime Minister Race (23rd October, 2022)(Politics, UK): Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, announced on the 23rd of October, 2022, that he will not run for Prime Minister (which he was ousted from over 3 months ago) after Liz Truss’ resignation. This leaves Treasury chief Rishi Sunak as the next most likely candidate to become the UK’s Prime Minister.

  3. King Charles III appoints Rishi Sunak as British Prime Minister (25th October, 2022)(Politics, UK): Liz Truss has formally tendered her resignation as UK Prime Minister, and King Charles III has appointed Rishi Sunak as the UK’s Prime Minister. Rishi Sunak is the first person of color, first British-Asian and the first Hindu to become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

  4. BBC to shut down Hausa Service Broadcast (25th October, 2022)(Media, Entertainment): The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has commenced plans to shut down the Hausa Service Broadcast as it transitions from TV and Radio to digital channels. This, the company states, is to meet the changing habits and needs of its audience.

  5. Adidas cuts ties with Kanye West over anti-semitic comments (25th October, 2022)(Entertainment, Sports): Adidas has terminated its partnership with Kanye West, also known as Ye, and to end production of Yeezy branded products as well as end payments to Kanye West and his companies. This, Adidas comments, will have some negative impact on the company’s net income, totalling about 250 million euros. According to Forbes, this also removes the ‘billionaire’ status from Kanye West, as his net worth plummets to 400 million dollars.

  6. CBN announces redesign of Naira notes (26th October, 2022)(Finance): The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has announced on the 26th October, 2022 that the 200, 500 and 1000 Naira Notes will be redesigned and made available by December 15th, 2022; and become legal tender by January 31st, 2023. The rationale, he states, is to curb counterfeit notes, hinder payment of ransom to kidnappers and terrorists, and prevent hoarding of the currency.

  7. Elon musk buys Twitter. (27th October, 2022)(Technology, Social Media): Elon Musk has finally acquired Twitter for 44 Billion Dollars, after he expressed interest in purchasing it in April, 2022 and subsequently tried to get out of the deal on the basis of the number of bots on the platform and allegations brought forth by a whistleblower. Elon Musk also fired top executives of the social media company, including the CEO, Parag Agrawal.
